Gertrude Stein Works Get Theatrical Treatment With Target Margin Theater's Stein Labs
The famous American author's modernist writings come to life at Brooklyn's Bushwick Starr.
Target Margin Theater will bring several works by the great American novelist, poet, and playwright Gertrude Stein to life this winter and spring with its TMT Stein Lab.
The lab's first part, the TMT Winter Stein Lab, is now taking place at Brooklyn's Bushwick Starr through February 7. Over 100 artists will participate in a range of Stein-related events and productions. Creative artists and special guests include Nic Adams, Adam R. Burnett, Nikki Calonge, Nehassaiu deGannes, Shonni Enelow, Aaron Ethan Green, Megan Hill, Julia Jarcho, Karinne Keithley Syers, and TMT Artistic Director David Herskovits.
The Stein Winter Lab comprises four different "labs" running in repertory. Each lab presents several works by Stein in creative and innovative theatrical stagings. Among the works performed are White Wines, Three Sisters Who Are Not Sisters, Reflections on the Atomic Bomb, and A Play Called Not and Now.
The exploration of Stein's work will continue in May with the world premiere of Obie winner David Greenspan's Composition…Master-Pieces…Identity, a solo play performed by Greenspan. It will run along with the TMT Spring Stein Lab, with artists including TMT Artistic Producer John Del Gaudio, Sarah Lurie, Handan Ozbilgin, and Patrick Scheid. Performances are set for May and June at the Connelly Theater at the Cornelia Connelly Center.
