EXCLUSIVE: Alex Newell Sings "A Wonderful Guy" From South Pacific Like You've Never Heard

This rendition of the classic is the auditory version of a heart-eyes emoji.

On this day 70 years ago, Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific opened for the first time on Broadway at the Majestic Theatre. The production would go on to win 10 Tony Awards and a Pulitzer Prize, and run for 1,925 performances, closing at the Broadway Theatre on January 16, 1954.

In celebration of the landmark event, the nonprofit performing arts training organization Broadway Dreams hosted a gala concert this past winter at the St. Regis New York, where Broadway favorites performed songs from Rodgers and Hammerstein's classic South Pacific score.

Take a look below at TM's exclusive video of Alex Newell's rendition of "A Wonderful Guy" — which, if you caught his performance as Mother Earth in Once on This Island, is as showstopping as you'd expect.
