Conor McPherson, Aidan Quinn, Meryl Streep, et al. Receive IFTA Awards

Conor McPherson’s film The Eclipse has won an Irish Film & Television Award (IFTA) as Best Film, according to a report in The Irish Times. The film also won awards for Aidan Quinn for Best Supporting Actor in a Film and McPherson and Billy Roche won an IFTA for Best Film Script. The Eclipse is scheduled to be released in the U.S. on March 26.

McPherson has received Tony Award nominations for The Seafarer, The Weir, and Shining City. Among his other plays are Rum and Vodka, Dublin Carol, Port Authority, and St. Nicholas.

Other winners of IFTAs in Film categories are Colin Ferrell (Ondine), Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones), and Dervla Kirwan (Ondine). In addition, Meryl Streep won the Pantene Best International Actress Award – People’s Choice for her performance in It’s Complicated. The Hurt Locker was named Best International Film.
