Broadway's Wesley Taylor and Mitchell Jarvis Look for Fans to Kickstart Season Two of it could be worse
A homegrown project by some of Broadway's favorite performers hopes for a second season.
After meeting in the original company of Broadway's Rock of Ages, Wesley Taylor (NBC's Smash, Second Stage Theatre's upcoming Little Miss Sunshine) and Mitchell Jarvis cofounded four a.m. productions and began filming small videos with their fellow Broadway pals. Their latest effort has been a Web series entitled it could be worse, a "twisted dramedy" featuring Taylor as a struggling actor named Jacob Gordon who finds himself stuck in a love triangle with characters played by Gideon Glick (Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark) and Adam Chanler-Berat (Peter and the Starcatcher).
"We weren't planning to do a second season," cocreator Taylor told TheaterMania. "We poured all of our own money into the first." But fans eagerly requested a second season via social media. "I think they recognize how unique our show is. We said, 'If we do it again, we have to get help.'"
Regarding its LGBT theme, Taylor told TheaterMania, "It's sort of normalized the same issues you would deal with in a straight relationship. Our Web series is celebrating how we are all the same."
In hope of continuing the show, Taylor, Jarvis, and the rest of four a.m. productions are looking to raise $50,000 through a Kickstarter campaign to fund production of the series' second season, in which Gordon moves from the Big Apple to the hills of Hollywood, where he hopes to find his acting niche.
"We realized if we start from where we left off — moving the show to L.A. — it would take a lot." But the fans insisted. "Mitch and I were like, 'let's do it!' $50,000 is ambitious, but we're sure we can make it happen."
Take a look at the video below where Taylor and Jarvis describe their (hopeful) plans for the second season of it could be worse. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for all of the Broadway and television stars that flash by. There are almost too many to count.
