The L.A. Reprise! production of the Cy Coleman-David Zippel-Larry Gelbart musical City of Angels will star Stephen Bogardus as Stine, Burke Moses as Stone, and Vicki Lewis as Donna/Oolie. Directed by Joe Leonardo, with choreography by Kay Cole, the show will run January 24-February 5 at U.C.L.A.’s Freud Playhouse.

The cast also includes Tami Tappan Damiano as Gabby/Bobbi, Alli Mauzey as Mallory/Avril, Kevin Earley as Jimmy, Daniel Guzman as Munoz, Marguerite McIntyre as Alaura/Carla, and Michael Lerner as Buddy, along with Stephen Briethaupt, Randy Brenner, Eric Leviton, Wes Ramsey, Teresa Marie Sanchez, Brent Schindele, Joe Souza, Herschel Sparber, Anne Fraser Thomas, and Freyda Thomas.

City of Angels is a spoof of 1940s private eye movies. The show follows the travails of a nerdy author who is trying to adapt his own detective novel into a screenplay and whose personal life begins to fall apart as he delves deeper into this fantasy world, which comes to life on the stage. The musical opened on Broadway in December 1989, starring James Naughton, Gregg Edelman, Randy Graff, Dee Hoty, and Rachel York, and ran for nearly 900 performances. It won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Bogardus received a Tony nomination for Love! Valour! Compassion!. His other Broadway credits include Man of La Mancha, The Dead, High Socierty, and Falsettos. Lewis has been seen on Broadway in Chicago and Damn Yankees and is best known for her starring role on the NBC sitcom Newsradio. Moses starred on Broadway in Guys and Dolls, Kiss Me, Kate, The Frogs, and Beauty and the Beast.

In other Reprise! news, it has been announced that longtime managing director Jim Gardia has been named as the new producing director of the organization. He replaces Marcia Seligson, who resigned earlier this year.
