Benesch, James, Sella, et al. to Join Smith and McCormack in London’s
The Lady from Dubuque

Vivienne Benesch, Glenn Fleshler, Peter Francis James, Chris Larkin, Jennifer Regan, and Robert Sella will join previously announced stars Dame Maggie Smith and Catherine McCormack in Edward Albee’s The Lady from Dubuque, which will begin previews at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on March 3, with an official opening slated for March 20. The production will be directed by Anthony Page, and feature design by Hildegard Bechtler (sets), Amy Roberts (costumes), and Howard Harrison (lighting).

The play, which had a very short-lived run on Broadway in 1980, concerns a dinner party thrown by the dying Jo (McCormack) and her husband Sam (Sella). After the guests depart, the mysterious title character (Smith) and her companion Oscar (James) arrive.

Smith has appeared on Broadway three times, winning the Tony Award for Lettice and Lovage and nominations for Private Lives and Night and Day. She won two Academy Awards, for The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and California Suite, as well as the Emmy Award and numerous British acting honors for her work.

McCormack recently appeared on the British stage in The 39 Steps and was an Olivier Award nominee for All My Sons. Benesch’s New York credits include After the Fall. Fleshler, James, and Sella all appeared in the Public Theater’s production of Stuff Happens. Larkin played the title role in the television miniseries The Six Wives of Henry VIII. Regan appeared in the Broadway revival of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, which was also directed by Page.
