Andre Previn’s Inside Daisy Clover, Featuring Natalie Wood, Now Available as 2-CD Set

Film Score Monthly has released a 2-CD set of Andre Previn’s Inside Daisy Clover. This 1965 recording was made for the “fictional biopic” starring Natalie Wood as Daisy Clover, an overnight singing sensation in 1930s Hollywood who struggles against the dark forces of showbiz.

Inside Daisy Clover was based on a novel by Gavin Lambert and also starred Robert Redford, Christopher Plummer, Roddy McDowall, and Ruth Gordon.

The composer and his lyricist wife Dory wrote three songs for the film: “You’re Gonna Hear From Me,” “A Happy Song” (deleted from the final cut and debuting here) and “The Circus Is a Wacky World,” orchestrated by Alexander Courage. The release has been remixed and remastered from the original ½” Warner Bros. three- and four-track stereo scoring masters. While voice double Jackie Ward sang the songs used in the film, the second disc features Wood’s original, unused song performances as well as alternate takes by Ward.
