2007 Barrymore Award Nominations Are Announced

Nominations for the 2007 Barrymore Awards, honoring the best of Greater Philadelphia theater, were announced this morning. The ceremony, to be hosted by actors Chris Faith and Greg Wood, will take place at 7pm on Monday, October 1 at the Crystal Tea Room in the Wanamaker Building.

The Walnut Street Theatre leads the pack with 22 nominations, followed by the Arden Theatre Company and Philadelphia Theatre Company with 13 nominations, and the Wilma Theatre with 12 nominations. Shows that garnered multiple nominations include Nerds://A Musical Software Satire (9), Caroline, or Change (8), 42nd Street (7), The Bomb–iity of Errors (7), The Pillowman (6), and Of Mice and Men (6).

Notable acting nominees include Jeffrey Coon (Carousel), Louisa Flanigam (Driving Miss Daisy), Dee Hoty (Stormy Weather), Mark Jacoby (42nd Street), Jim Poulos (Nerds), Leslie Uggams (Stormy Weather), and Eunice Wong (Infinite Ache).

In addition to the 22 theatrical categories, there will be three special categories: the F. Otto Haas Award for an Emerging Philadelphia Theatre Artist; the Award for Excellence in Theatre Education and Community Service; and The Ted and Stevie Wolf Award for New Approaches to Collaborations. The Barrymore’s Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Carole Haas Gravango for her “incredible generosity throughout the cultural community.”
