New York City
The three leading men will dock at the Lyric Theatre this fall.
Broadway veterans Tony Yazbeck (Gypsy), Jay Armstrong Johnson (Hands on a Hardbody), and Clyde Alves (Bullets Over Broadway) will take on the roles of the show's three leading sailors in the upcoming Broadway revival of On the Town.
The production features direction by John Rando and choreography by Joshua Bergasse in his Broadway debut. Performances will begin at the Lyric Theatre on September 20 in advance of an October 16 opening.
Created by the legendary creative team of Leonard Bernstein, Betty Comden, Adolph Green, and Jerome Robbins, On the Town writes a musical love letter to New York City. Yazbeck, Johnson, and Alves, whose characters take on the Big Apple while on 24-hour shore leave, will reprise the roles they performed in last summer's Barrington Stage production.
Yazbeck continues his long-standing relationship with the character Gabey, which he first performed in Rando's City Center Encores! presentation of the musical in 2008.
