John Doyle's Tony-winning revival of The Color Purple will kick off the 2018-19 season at Paper Mill Playhouse. The musical will run September 26-October 21.

The Color Purple replaces the previously announced Andrew Lloyd Webber musical memoir Unmasked, which Doyle was also set to direct. Based on Alice Walker's novel and Steven Spielberg's film, the musical has a book by Marsha Norman and a score by Stephen Bray, Brenda Russell, and Allee Willis.

Casting for The Color Purple will be announced at a later date. Doyle's production originated at London's Menier Chocolate Factory before moving to Broadway in fall 2015. It received two 2016 Tony Awards, Best Revival of a Musical, and Best Actress in a Musical for star Cynthia Erivo.
