Casts Announced for By the Bog of Cats and A Raisin in the Sun at Guthrie

Casting has been announced for two upcoming productions at the Guthrie. Frank Theatre’s production of Marina Carr’s By the Bog of Cats will play the Guthrie Theater’s Dowling Studio, March 12-April 5, with an opening set for March 13. Wendy Knox will direct this loose retelling of Medea set in rural Ireland.

The cast will star Virginia Burke and John Catron, with Sulia Altenberg, Gabe Angieri, Tony Brown, Annie Enneking, Anika Habermas-Scher, Melissa Hart, Christopher Kehoe, Grant Richey, Izzy Rousmaniere, Eric Sharp, and Cheryl Willis. The creative team will include John Clark Donahue (scenery), Kathy Kohl (costumes), Jeff Bartlett (lighting), and Michael Croswell (sound). There will be a benefit birthday party on March 21, which will celebrate 20 years of Frank Theatre. For tickets, call 612-724-3760.

The Guthrie will also present Penumbra Theatre’s 50th anniversary production of Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun on the McGuire Proscenium Stage, March 12-April 11, with an opening on March 13. Lou Bellamy directs this co-production with Arizona Theatre Company and The Cleveland Play House.

The cast will feature David Alan Anderson (Walter Lee), Damron Russell Armstrong (Bobo), Franchelle Stewart Dorn (Lena), Kyle Haden (George Murchison), Steven Nicholas Jackson (Travis), Bakesta King (Beneatha), Erika LaVonn (Ruth), Adeoye Mabogunje (Joseph Asagai), and Patrick O’Brien (Karl Linder). The creative team will include Vicki M. Smith (set), Mathew J. LeFebvre (costumes), Michelle Habeck (lighting), and James C. Swonger (sound).
