Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit Recieves Personal Donation from President and Mrs. Obama

The Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit has received a $10,000 donation from President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama, according to a report in The Detroit Free Press. The theater received the gift, drawn on a check from the Obamas’ bank in Chicago, on January 4.

The theater has become a national model for arts education and youth development since its founding in 1992, providing accessible theater and vocal music training for metropolitan Detroit area youth, ages 6-18. In 2008, members of the theater performed for then-candidate Obama and his wife at a campaign event in Detroit.
