Tyler Perry to Receive NAACP Chairman’s Award

Tyler Perry will be presented with the NAACP Chairman’s Award during the 41st NAACP Image Awards, which will be held at the historic Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Friday, February 26. The ceremony will be broadcast live on FOX.

The award is bestowed in recognition of special achievement and distinguished public service. Perry is currently nominated for multiple NAACP Image Awards, including Outstanding Writing in a Motion Picture (Theatrical or Television) for Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself and for Outstanding Comedy Series for Tyler Perry’s House of Payne.

Perry is currently touring in his play, Madea’s Big Happy Family, and he has made two films featuring the Madea character, which he originally created on stage: Madea’s Family Reunion and Madea Goes To Jail. Perry is also expected to direct the film version of the Broadway play, For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf…
