Stephanie Beatriz, René Millán, Richard Montoya Set for American Night at Kirk Douglas Theatre

The entire cast of the current La Jolla Playhouse production of Richard Montoya’s American Night: The Ballad of Juan José will continue in the show when it performs at Center Theatre Group’s Kirk Douglas Theatre, March 9-April 11, with an opening on March 11. Jo Bonney, who has developed the work with the group Culture Clash, directs.

The play, a co-production of the two theaters, centers on a man who, while feverishly studying for his U.S. citizenship exam, finds himself swept up into a whirlwind journey through pivotal moments in American history.

The previously reported La Jolla cast includes playwright Montoya as Juan the First and in Ensemble roles and René Millán in the title role, along with Stephanie Beatriz (Lydia/Ensemble), Rodney Gardiner (Ben Pettus/Ensemble), David Kelly (Harry Bridges/Ensemble), Terri McMahon (Mrs. Finney/Ensemble), Kimberly Scott (Viola Pettus/Ensemble), Herbert Siguenza (Neil Diamante/Ensemble), and Daisuke Tsuji (Johnny/Ensemble).

The production will feature choreography by Ken Roht, scenic design by Neil Patel, costume design by ESosa, lighting design by David Weiner, sound design by Darron L West, and projection design by Shawn Sagady.
