Mamma Mia! 2 Trailer Makes Us Ask "Where Is Donna?"

The musical sequel has dropped its first official teaser.

The plot of the Mamma Mia! film sequel has been a big secret since the movie plans were announced, but this morning's release of the first official trailer hints at a few things to come. The teaser confirms that Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) is pregnant. Her mother Donna (Meryl Streep), however, is suspiciously absent as Donna's friends Tanya (Christine Baranski) and Rosie (Julie Walters) look back at their nascent selves to reflect on Donna's origin story as a young, single mother (Young Donna is played by Lily James).

Is the sequel a Donna en memoriam? We can't say. But Cher, who in real life is only three years older than Streep, is playing Sophie's grandmother — so anything is possible.
