Lively, Torti, et al. Set for El Portal’s Smokey Joe’s Café

Tony nominees DeLee Lively and Robert Torti will star in El Portal Theatre’s production of the Lieber & Stoller revue, Smokey Joe’s Café, to run December 10-January 4, with a gala premiere on December 13. Jeffrey Polk will direct and choreograph, with musical direction by Daryl Archibald.

The production showcases 39 pop standards including “Hound Dog,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Yakety Yak,” “Love Potion Number 9,” “Stand By Me,” “Kansas City,” and “On Broadway.”

The cast will also include Sharon Catherine Blanks, T.C. Carson, Dionne Figgins, Maceo Oliver, Niles Rivers, Jackie Seiden, and John Woodard, III. Sabrina Miller and Reign Morton will be swings, and Brendan Grevatt will be the lighting designer.

Lively received a Tony nomination as a member of the original Broadway cast of Smokey Joe’s Café, and also appeared on Broadway in A Chorus Line. Torti was Tony-nominated for Starlight Express, appeared in the Broadway production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and won an Ovation Award for Reefer Madness.
