24th Street Theatre Announces Line-up for 2008 Saturday Explorer Series

24th Street Theatre will celebrate the ten-year anniversary of the Saturday Explorer Series, by setting the theme to music. All five shows pay tribute to musical theater as a form as they let their stories unfold.

The season will open with Amahl & the Night Visitors (April 12), performed by the Chamber Opera of USC. Next up, Ayana Hampton’s The Pickle (April 19) will follow Peter Piper as he faces a peck of problems. Gone in 60 Seconds (April 26) will be performed by Sandra Tsing Loh and the Blue People Group for ages 4 and up. Juli Crockett and Jeremy Zuckerman will present The History of Water (May 10) for ages 7 and up, and the series will close with When Words Are Not Enough: The How and Why of Musical Theatre Songs (May 17) by Alan Chapman and Karen Benjamin.

Since the Saturday Explorer Series debuted in 1998, the program has featured dozens of renowned performers, including Ten West, Jude Narita, Paul Zaloom, Dan Froot, Kres Mersky, Bridget Hanley, Theatre Movement Bazaar, Wayne Cook, Dan Kwong, Denise Uyehara, Timothy Busfield’s B Street Theatre, East West Players, and many others.
