Simon Callow to Star in U.K. Tour of Jonathan Bate’s Shakespeare – The Man From Stratford

Simon Callow will star in Jonathan Bate’s Shakespeare – The Man from Stratford, which will launch a U.K. tour at Theatre Royal Plymouth, running June 10-12. Tom Cairns will direct the production.

Other stops on the tour include Liverpool Playhouse (June 16-19), Oxford Playhouse (June 21-22), Cambridge Arts (June 23-26), Theatre Royal Bath (June 28-30), Sheffield Lyceum (July 1-3), Theatre Royal Windsor (July 6-10), Theatre Royal Brighton (July 13-17), Malvern Festival Theatre (July 20-22), Taunton Brewhouse Theatre (July 23-24), and Richmond Theatre (July 27-31). The final engagement for the tour will be part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where it will run August 5-30 at the Assembly Hall.

The play brings both the playwright and his characters to the stage. Callow has previously performed such one-man shows as The Mystery of Charles Dickens and Dr Marigold & Mr Chops. His other recent stage credits include Waiting for Godot opposite Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart, while his many films include hit comedies Four Weddings and a Funeral and Shakespeare in Love.
