Peter Brook Receives UK’s Critics Circle Award

Theater director Peter Brook has been given the Critics’ Circle Award for his “distinguished service to the arts.”

In a career that has spanned over 50 years, the 84-year-old Brook has directed over 70 productions in London, Paris, and New York, among them Marat/Sade and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, both of which earned him Tony Awards, as well as The Visit, Irma La Douce, The Physicists, House of Flowers, The Grand Inquisitor and The Mahabharata..

Previous winners of the award, which was first given in 1988, have included Peter Hall, Richard Eyre, Judi Dench, Harold Pinter, Paul Scofield, Ian McKellen, Helen Mirren, Alan Bennett, and Tom Stoppard.
