Juliette Binoche, Cate Blanchett, Simon McBirney, et al. Set for Barbican Centre’s 2012 Season
The Barbican in London has announced a preliminary lineup of productions for its 2012 season, according to a report on Whatsonstage.com.
As previously announced, the Barbican will present the Sydney Theatre Company’s production of Martin Crimp’s new adaptation of Botho Strauss’ Gross und Klein (April 13 – April 29), starring Cate Blanchett. Directed by Luc Bondy, the piece follows Blanchett’s character through an Alice in Wonderland-like series of adventures, as she searches for human connection.
The season will also include a production of August Strindberg’s Mademoiselle Julie (September 20-29). Directed by Frédéric Fisbach, this production of Strindberg’s classic about desire and love conflicting with the constraints of social convention will star Juliette Binoche.
Other offerings will include a new work from Simon McBurney and Complicite, which will open in March, the U.K. premiere of Robert Wilson and Philip Glass’ Einstein on the Beach (May 4-13), a celebration of choreographer Pina Bausch’s work (June 6 – July 9), and a new production from Kate Bond and Morgan Lloyd, who created the award-winning You Me Bum Bum Train, which will premiere in July.
