Cleveland Play House to Present Shakespeare in Love

The new play is adapted for the stage by Lee Hall.

The Cleveland Play House has announced plans to present Shakespeare in Love from September 9-October 1 in the Allen Theatre. Media night is set for September 15. CPH Artistic Director Laura Kepley directs.

Adapted for the stage by Lee Hall, Shakespeare in Love follows young playwright Will Shakespeare, who is short on inspiration until he encounters the beguiling Viola de Lesseps, daughter of a wealthy merchant, and their star-crossed love inspires a masterpiece. The play is based on the screenplay of the Academy Award winning movie by Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard.

The cast will feature Lavour Addison, Drew Bastian, Tommy Bilczo, Paul Bugallo, Mariah Burks, Donald Carrier, Kyle Cherry, Sarah Cuneo, Randy Merrill, Grant Goodman, Peter Hargrave, Megan Medley, Andhy Mendez, Allen O’Reilly, Brian Owen, Chuck Richie, Marina Shay, Tina Stafford, Charlie Thurston, and Evan Zes.

The design team for Shakespeare in Love includes: Lex Liang (scenic and costume design), Russell H. Champa (lighting designer), Jane Shaw (sound designer, original composition), Nathan Motta (music director), and David Shimotakahara (choreographer).
