Twyla Tharp to Receive Hubbard Street Dance Chicago’s Spotlight Award, Will Choreograph New Work for Company

Twyla Tharp will receive the Hubbard Street Dance Chicago’s Spotlight Award at the company’s annual Spotlight Ball, to be held at the Hilton Chicago on Thursday, June 2. The award will presented by Hubbard Street founder Lou Conte.

The company has also a commissioned new work from Tharp, which will have its world premiere during Hubbard Street Dance Chicago’s fall season at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, October 13-16. The company last performed her work in 1995, when they presented the world premiere of I Remember Clifford.

Tharp won Tony and Drama Desk Awards for her choreography of Movin’ Out, for which she was also nominated as a director. In addition, she received a Tony Award nomination for her choreography of Come Fly Away, which she also directed. Her other credits on Broadway include The Times They Are A Changin’, and Singin’ in the Rain.

The choreographer is also the recipient of two Emmy Awards, the 2004 National Medal of the Arts, the Astaire Award, and the Drama League Award for Sustained Achievement in Musical Theater, among other honors.
