Ghostlight Records has announced plans to record the original cast album of the new Broadway musical War Paint, starring two-time Tony Award winners Patti LuPone and Christine Ebersole. The musical began preview performances March 7 in advance of an April 6 opening at the Nederlander Theatre.

The label will record the show’s original Broadway cast album on April 16 and 17 and release it in June. Pre-orders are now being taken at the theater.

Inspired by Lindy Woodhead's book War Paint, as well as by Ann Carol Grossman and Arnie Reisman's PBS documentary The Powder & the Glory, the show examines the ascent and rivalry of cosmetics entrepreneurs Helena Rubenstein (LuPone) and Elizabeth Arden (Ebersole), whose 50-year tug-of-war gave birth to an industry.

The cast also features Tony Award nominees John Dossett as Tommy Lewis (Arden’s husband and chief marketing officer) and Douglas Sills as Harry Fleming (Rubinstein’s clubby confidante and faithful ally).

Directed by Michael Greif and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli, War Paint features a book by Doug Wright and score by Scott Frankel and Michael Korie, the team behind the musical Grey Gardens, in which Ebersole starred.
