Broadway's Tony-Winning Once on This Island Announces Closing Date
Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty's musical will end its run at the Circle in the Square Theatre.
The Tony-winning Broadway revival of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty's musical Once on This Island will end its run at the Circle in the Square Theatre on Sunday, January 6. When it closes, the production will have played 29 previews and 458 performances.
The cast features 2018 Tony nominee Hailey Kilgore (Ti Moune), Michelle T. Williams (Erzulie), Tamyra Gray (Papa Ge), Quentin Earl Darrington (Agwe), Alex Newell (Asaka), Juliet Benn (Little Girl), Phillip Boykin (Tonton Julian) Courtnee Carter (Storyteller), Cicily Daniels (Storyteller), Tyler Hardwick (Storyteller), Cassondra James (Storyteller), David Jennings (Armand), Kenita R. Miller (Mama Euralie), Isaac Powell (Daniel), T. Oliver Reid (Storyteller), Anna Uzele (Storyteller), Allan K. Washington (Storyteller), Aurelia Williams (Storyteller), Mia Williamson (Little Girl), and Daniel Yearwood (Storyteller).
Once on This Island features a book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty. The musical, which premiered on Broadway in 1990, is based on the novel My Love, My Love by Rosa Guy, and the revival production features new orchestrations by original orchestrator Michael Starobin, joined by AnnMarie Milazzo.
Michael Arden's production, which won the 2018 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical, features choreography by Camille A. Brown, and a creative team made up of Dane Laffrey (scenic design), Clint Ramos (costume design), Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer (lighting designers), Peter Hylenski (sound designer), John Bertles/Bash The Trash (unusual instruments), Cookie Jordan (hair/wig & makeup designer), Chris Fenwick (music supervisor), Alvin Hough, Jr. (music director), David Perlow (associate director), Nikki M. James (assistant director), and Rickey Tripp (associate choreographer).
