Paolo Montalban and Anne L. Nathan to Join Funny Girl on Broadway

The new cast members will begin performances at the end of March.

Producers announced today that Broadway’s Funny Girl will welcome new cast members to the August Wilson Theatre beginning Tuesday, March 28.

Paolo Montalban (Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, opposite Brandy) and Anne L. Nathan (Once) will assume the roles of Florenz Ziegfeld and Mrs. Strakosh, respectively. They take over for current cast members Peter Francis James and Toni DiBuono, who will play their final performances on Sunday, March 26.

Montalban and Nathan join a company currently led by Lea Michele as Fanny Brice, Ramin Karimloo as Nick Arnstein, Jared Grimes as Eddie Ryan, and Tovah Feldshuh as Mrs. Rosie Brice, with Ephie Aardema as Emma/Mrs. Nadler, Debra Cardona as Mrs. Meeker, Martin Moran as Tom Keeney. Rounding out the ensemble are Miriam Ali, Amber Ardolino, Daniel Beeman, Colin Bradbury, Kurt Csolak, John Michael Fiumara, Leslie Donna Flesner, Candice Hatakeyama, Curtis Holland, Masumi Iwai, Aliah James, Jeremiah James, Danielle Kelsey, Stephen Mark Lukas, Alicia Lundgren, John Manzari, Liz McCartney, Connor McRory, Katie Mitchell, Justin Prescott, Mariah Reives, Barbara Tirrell, and Leslie Blake Walker. “Fanny Brice” alternate Julie Benko performs the lead role every Thursday.

Funny Girl is written by Isobel Lennart (original book), with a score by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill. For this revival, which opened in April 2022, the book was revised by Harvey Fierstein, with Michael Mayer directing. The production will end its Broadway run on Sunday, September 3, with a national tour to follow.
