The new musical Almost Famous will end its Broadway run on January 8, 2023, just over two months after celebrating its opening night at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre. It will have played 30 previews and 77 post-opening performances.

Based on the 2000 film by Cameron Crowe (who won an Oscar for the screenplay) Almost Famous tells the story of a teenager who becomes a journalist for Rolling Stone by embedding himself with the up-and-coming band Stillwater. Crowe adapted his screenplay to the stage with a score that mixes rock classics by Led Zeppelin and Elton John with new music by Tom Kitt. Jeremy Herrin directs, with choreography by Sarah O'Gleby.

The production stars Chris Wood, Anika Larsen, Solea Pfeiffer, Drew Gehling, Rob Colletti, and Casey Likes. The company also includes Matt Bittner, Chad Burris, Gerard Canonico, Julia Cassandra, Brandon Contreras, Jakeim Hart, Van Hughes, Jana Djenne Jackson, Claire Kwon, Katie Ladner, Danny Lindgren, Erica Mansfield, Alisa Melendez, Kevin Trinio Perdido, Andrew Poston, Emily Schultheis, Daniel Sovich, Libby Winters, and Matthew C. Yee.

TheaterMania critic Kenji Fujishima described Almost Famous as "an object lesson in how not to bring a beloved movie to the stage." You can read his full review here.
