Marlo Thomas to Star in Elaine May’s George Is Dead for Arizona Theatre Company

Emmy Award winner Marlo Thomas will star in George Is Dead, written and directed by Elaine May, to be presented by Arizona Theatre Company in Tucson, October 17-November 7, followed by a run in Phoenix, November 12-December 6.

Thomas will play Doreen, the socialite wife of a right-wing Republican named George. On her way to a fundraiser, driven by a possibly illegal immigrant, she ends up at the home of a former employee and her left-wing husband.

Thomas has starred on Broadway in Thieves, The Shadow Box, and Social Security. She has won Emmys for her work in children’s programming, including Free to Be…You and Me, and she is well known for her starring role on the television series That Girl, for which she earned a Golden Globe Award and four Emmy Award nominations.

Arizona Theatre Company’s 2009-2010 season will also include an adaptation of The Kite Runner (September 10-October 25), directed by David Ira Goldstein; the Fats Waller musical revue Ain’t Misbehavin’ (November 28-January 17), Hunter Bell and Jeff Bowen’s [title of show] (January 23-March 7); The Glass Menagerie (February 27-April 11); and The Second City Does Arizona, or Close, But No Saguaro (April 3-May 16).
