Kennedy Center Accepting Nominations for Stephen Sondheim Inspirational Teacher Awards

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has announced that nominations are being accepted through December 15 for the inaugural Kennedy Center/Stephen Sondheim Inspirational Teacher Awards. The winners of the honor, which includes a $10,000 prize, will be presented on March 22.

Sondheim frequently attributes his success to the teachers in his life and these awards are designed to recognize inspiring teachers — kindergarten through college — from across the United States. In addition to the award, the teachers, as well as the people they inspired, will be highlighted on a web site dedicated to inspirational teachers.

The awards have been created in honor of Sondheim’s 80th birthday and have been initiated and funded through the support of Freddie Gershon and his wife Myrna.
