Arlington, Virginia's Synetic Theater has announced the productions set for its 2016-17 season, made up entirely of wordless adaptations.

The season opens with a reimagined version of Dante's Inferno, running from September 28-October 30, with an official press opening on October 1. The classic tale tells the story of a lost traveler who must navigate a treacherous journey through the nine circles of hell in search of spiritual redemption and his lost love.

The iconic Grimm Brothers fairy tale Sleeping Beauty will follow, running from December 7, 2016-January 15, 2017, with an official December 10 press opening.

William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew will then get a wordless production, starring Synetic's founding choreographer and associate artistic director Irina Tsikurishvili. The Hollywood-set adaptation will run from February 15-March 26, 2017.

Next will be The Hunchback of Notre Dame, which will also feature the work of Tsikurishvili in her dialogue-free adaptation of Victor Hugo's gothic story. Performances will run from May 10-June 18, 2017.

Carmen, the story of a gypsy who draws the soldier Jose into a forbidden romance, will close out the season, with Tsikurishvili reprising her performance in the title role. Performances will run from July 19-August 13, 2017.
