Bright Star begins a limited pre-Broadway run in The Kennedy Center's Eisenhower Theater this evening.

Set in the 1920s and '40s in the American South, the musical centers on successful literary editor Alice Murphy. Based on an original story by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, the show features music and book by Martin and music and lyrics by Brickell, and choreography by Josh Rhodes. Walter Bobbie directs.

The cast features Carmen Cusack as Alice, along with Paul Alexander Nolan, Michael Mulheren, A.J. Shively, Hannah Elless, Stephen Bogardus, Dee Hoty, Stephen Lee Anderson, Emily Padgett, and Jeff Blumenkrantz.

The design team includes Eugene Lee (set), Jane Greenwood (costumes), Japhy Weideman (lighting), Nevin Steinberg (sound), and Tom Watson (hair and wig).
