West End star Simon Burke will take over the role of Captain von Trapp in the Toronto production of The Sound of Music, replacing Burke Moses, who a press statement says “must, regrettably leave the show to have surgery.” Moses will leave the production on December 6, with Moses beginning performances of the show at the Princess of Wales Theatre on December 8, and continuing through the production’s scheduled closing date of January 3.

Burke recently played the same role in the West End production of the musical, and has also appeared in the original Australian cast of Les Miserables and West End productions of La Cage aux Folles, Phantom of the Opera, and A Little Night Music.

This production of The Sound of Music is directed by Jeremy Sams, with choreography by Arlene Phillips. It began October 3, 2008, and was awarded three Dora Mavor Moore Awards — Best Musical Production, Best Actress (Elicia MacKenzie), and Best Set Design (Robert Jones).
