2011 Spoleto USA Festival Announces Performance Line-Up

The line-up has been announced for the 2011 Spoleto Festival USA, which will be held in Charleston, South Carolina, May 27-June 12. The Festival will include a total of 152 performances by artists from around the world.

Theatrical offerings will include the Druid Theatre’s production of Martin McDonagh’s The Cripple of Inishmaan; the Kneehigh Theatre’s production of The Red Shoes; Lemon Andersen’s solo show County of Kings: The Beautiful Struggle; Edgar Oliver’s solo piece, East 10th Street: Self Portrait With Empty House; and Lee Breuer’s The Gospel at Colonus.

Opera selections include Marianne Weems’ production of Kaija Saariaho’s Emilie, starring Elizabeth Futral; the Angers Nantes Opera’s production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute; and John Pascoe’s production of Gian Carlo Menotti’s The Medium.


Additional participants include the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra, conducted by James Gaffigan; the Westminster Choir; the St. Lawrence String Quartet; Corella Ballet, Shen Wei Dance Arts; Circa; Taylor Mac; Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips; Bela Fleck; Sarah Jarosz; Del McCoury Band; Dianne Reeves; Karrin Allyson; and Danilo Rea, among others.
