American Conservatory Theater is to present a specially commissioned new translation by Olivier Award–winning British playwright Timberlake Wertenbaker of Sophocles’ Elektra, October 25-November 18 at A.C.T.’s Geary Theater. Artistic Director Carey Perloff will direct.

Featuring an original score by Pulitzer Prize–winning composer David Lang, this translation of the play penetrates the emotional complexity of the title figure as well as her exiled brother, her desperate sister, and her paranoid mother.

The cast will be led by the previously reported stars René Augesen in the title role and Academy Award winner Olympia Dukakis as the Chorus Leader. They will be joined by Caroline Lagerfelt (Clytemnestra), Anthony Fusco (the Tutor), Nick Steen (Orestes), Allegra Edwards (Chrysothemis), and Steven Anthony Jones (Aegisthus).

The design team will feature Ralph Funicello (set design), Candice Donnelly (costume design), Nancy Schertler (lighting design), and Cliff Caruthers (sound design).
