Oberon K.A. Adjepong, Carla Duren, Tonye Patano, et al. Set for La Jolla’s Ruined

La Jolla Playhouse has announced casting for the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Ruined, by Lynn Nottage. Liesl Tommy will direct this co-production with Berkeley Repertory Theatre and the Huntington Theatre Company, which will play the Mandell Weiss Theatre, November 16 – December 19.

The play is set in a small town in the war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo, where Mama Nadi runs a cozy brothel where a soldier can put down his weapon and spend the evening in the company of beautiful women – for a price. Mama Nadi both protects and profits from the young women who work for her, and she is determined to keep the war at bay and the money flowing at any cost.

The cast will feature Oberon K.A. Adjepong (Christian), Pascale Armand (Salima), Jason Bowen (Fortune), Carla Duren as (Sophie), Wendell Franklin (Jerome), Zainab Jah (Josephine), Joseph Kamal (Mr. Harari), Adesoji Odukogbe (Musician 2), Kola Ogundiran (Laurent), Okieriete Onaodowan (Simon), Tonye Patano (Mama Nadi), Adrian Roberts (Commander Osembenga), and Alvin Terry (Musician 1).

The design team will include Clint Ramos (set), Kathleen Geldard (costumes), Lap Chi Chu (lighting), and Broken Chord Collective (original music, sound, and musical direction).
