The season will open with Garson Kanin's Born Yesterday (September 27-October 28), a classic comedy telling the tale of Billie Dawn's transformation from ditzy showgirl to solid citizen, directed by Ted Pappas. Next, Tracy Brigden will direct David Lindsay-Abaire's Good People (November 8-December 9), a look at choices, pride, and what people will do to survive. Then, Ted Pappas will direct 1776 (January 24-February 24), a Tony Award-winning musical about the founding of our nation with a book by Peter Stone and music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards.
In the spring, The Public will present Thurgood (March 7-April 7) by George Stevens, Jr., an eye-opening and uplifting portrait of American hero Thurgood Marshall, also directed by Ted Pappas. Pamela Berlin will direct Bruce Norris' Clybourne Park (April 18-May 19), a funny play about the minefield of personalities that makeup a community. Director Rob Ruggiero will bring the season to a close with Other Desert Cities (May 30-June 30), Jon Robin Baitz's entertaining look at unruly family politics.
The season's two special events will be Second City for President (August 24 and 25), featuring sketch comedy, musical accompaniment, and audience participation and Rob Zellers and Gene Collier's The Chief (January 3-12), which will kick off the new year with the story of Arthur J. Rooney, Sr. (played by Tom Atkins), the founding of a legendary football dynasty, and a great American city. The Chief will be directed by Ted Pappas.
