Flashdance – The Musical National Tour to Launch in Pittsburgh January 2013
A national tour of Flashdance – The Musical, adapted from the 1983 hit film, will launch at Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh on January 1, 2013. The tour will be based upon the previously reported Broadway production of the show, slated for Fall 2012, which will be directed and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo.
The musical features a book by Robert Cary and Tom Hedley –co-writer of the original screenplay with Joe Eszterhas — with music by Robbie Roth and lyrics by Robert Cary and Robbie Roth. It tells the story of Alex Owens, a working-class girl from Pittsburgh striving to make her dreams of becoming a professional dancer a reality.
The tour will feature a separate company from the Broadway production. Casting for both will be announced at a later date.
