The Classic Stage Company revival of Pacific Overtures, directed by John Doyle, opens tonight, May 4. As previously reported, the Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman musical has been extended through June 18.

George Takei (Allegiance) leads the cast as Reciter, alongside Karl Josef Co, Marc delaCruz (If/Then), Steven Eng (Waterfall), Megan Masako Haley (Wicked), Ann Harada (Avenue Q), Kimberly Immanuel (Waterfall), Austin Ku (Younger), Kelvin Moon Loh (The King and I), Orville Mendoza (Peter and the Starcatcher), Marc Oka (The King and I), and Thom Sesma (Man of La Mancha).

In Pacific Overtures, Commodore Matthew Perry sails to Japan in 1853 on a U.S. mission to open up trade relations at any cost. The musical tells the tale of a samurai and a fisherman who are caught up in the Westernization of the East. The show first premiered on Broadway in 1976 under the direction of Hal Prince.
