Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins has replaced the previously reported Eisa Davis in Playwrights Horizons’ New York premiere of Milk Like Sugar, by Kirsten Greenidge. Rebecca Taichman will direct the production, which runs October 13-November 20, with an opening on November 1. Davis has had to withdraw from the New York production due to a filming commitment.

The play concerns 16-year-old Annie, an inner-city girl who struggles between the pregnancy pact she made with her friends and her need to carve out a life beyond the only one she knows.

The cast also includes Cherise Boothe, Angela Lewis, LeRoy McClain, J. Mallory-McCree, Nikiya Mathis, and Adrienne Moore. The entire company – including Pinkins – are currently starring in the play at the La Jolla Playhouse.

The production will feature scenic design by Mimi Lien, costume design by Miranda Hoffman, lighting design by Justin Townsend and sound design by Andre Pleuss.
