New York-area venues, as well as national encore dates, have been announced for the previously reported NT Live presentation of the musical Fela! on January 13.

Among the New York City theaters that will be showing the Bill T. Jones musical on January 13 are the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Cinema 123 in Manhattan, and the Kew Gardens Cinema in Queens. In addition, the piece will be seen on January 27 at NYU Skirball Center for the Arts.

Other encore presentations nationwide will include Society of the Four Arts in Palm Beach, FL (January 15 & February 5), the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, DC (January 17), the Angelika Film Centre in Dallas (January 19-20), the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis (January 27), Sundance Kabuki in San Francisco (February 5) and the SIFF Cinema in Seattle (February 7).

Fela, directed and choreographed by Jones, features its Tony-nominated Broadway star Sahr Ngaujah as Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and focuses on the man’s controversial life as artist, political activist, and revolutionary musician. It features his rousing music performed live onstage by Antibalas and other members of the NYC Afrobeat community, under the direction of Aaron Johnson. The production also features musical arrangements and additional music by Johnson and Jordan McLean.

NT Live performances are filmed live at the National Theatre in high definition and broadcast via satellite to 300 cinemas around the world, with over 75 in the UK and venues in the USA, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Scandinavia and Europe.
