2012 Line-up for Under the Radar Festival Announced

The Public Theater has announced the line-up for the eighth annual Under the Radar Festival, to be held at the Public and at partner venues around the city, January 4-15, 2012.
The festival is committed to tracking new theater from across the U.S. and around the world and, this year, will feature new shows from nine countries, including Argentina, Italy, Japan, and Poland.
Among the events at the Public Theater is Goodbar, created by Bambï and Waterwell, based on Looking for Mr. Goodbar by Judith Rossner, and featuring music by Jimmie Marlowe, and lyrics by Kevin Townley. Arian Moayed and Tom Ridgely will direct, with the production featuring Bambï, Hanna Cheek, Cara Jeiven, Jimmie Marlowe, Tobi Parks and Kevin Townley. The piece also integrates video performances by Ira Glass, Moby, Bobby Cannavale, and many others.
Other shows at the Public include Sontag: Reborn from The Builders Association, starring Moe Angelo; Super Night Shot from Gob Squad Arts Collective; Word Becomes Flesh, conceived and directed by Marc Bamuthi Joseph / The Living Word Project; Camille O’Sullivan in Feel; and El pasado es un animal grotesco (The past is a grotesque animal), written and directed by Mariano Pensotti, and co-presented by PS 122’s COIL Festival.
Events at La MaMa E.T.C. include two works from the Italy-based Motus, directed by Enrico Casagrande and Daniela Nicolò: Alexis. A Greek Tragedy and The Plot is the Revolution, the latter featuring Silvia Calderoni and Judith Malina. Also at La MaMa will be Lick But Don’t Swallow!, directed by biriken (an interdisciplinary arts collective based in Istanbul and Paris), in collaboration with Ayça Damgac? and written by Özen Yula; The Table from UK-based Blind Summit; and In the Solitude of Cotton Fields from Stefan Zeromski Theatre, directed by Rados?aw Rychcik.
At the Japan Society will be Hot Pepper, Air Conditioner and the Farewell Speech, written and Directed by Toshiki Okada, and presented by chelfitsch Theater Company; and The Bee, co-written & directed by Hideki Noda.
Additional shows will include Chimera from Suli Holum and Deborah Stein at HERE, and Gob Squad’s interactive Resource Room at the Goethe-Institut Wyoming Building.
