Green Day, the award-winning rock group behind the hit musical American Idiot at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, will play live on December 31 in New York City as part of NBC's New Year's Eve with Carson Daly, according to The Associated Press.
American Idiot follows a group of working-class characters from the suburbs to the city to the Middle East as they seek redemption. It features songs from two CDS: American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown. The show is expected to transfer to Broadway in 2010.
The band has won three Grammy Awards. Its other CDs include Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod and Warning.
