(© Joseph Marzullo/Retna) | David Lindsay-Abaire will adapt William Joyce's upcoming series of childrens' books, The Guardians of Childhood, for a new Dreamworks Animation film to be released in 2012, according to Variety. The film will be co-directed by Joyce and Peter Ramsey.
The books, to be published in 2011, focus on a group of iconic figures, including Santa Claus, Jack Frost, and the Easter Bunny, who are sworn to protect children from the forces of evil.
Lindsay-Abaire is best known as the author of Rabbit Hole and wrote the screenplay for the film version, which will be released next year. He is currently represented on Broadway by Shrek The Musical, and his other works include Fuddy Meers, Kimberly Akimbo, Wonder of the World, and the book for the musical High Fidelity.
