The cast of the new musical American Idiot is in the studio this week with Green Day recording a new version of the band's hit single, "21 Guns." The tune is just one from the group that is heard in the stage version of the band's 2004 album.

The band's singer and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong is producing the track, which will be available for purchase through all digital retailers at the end of November. Additionally, Green Day, which also includes bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool, are shooting a video for "21 Guns" with the American Idiot cast.

The musical premiered at Berkeley Rep on September 4 and had an extended run which concluded on November 15. The show was directed by Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer, who collaborated with Armstrong on the story.

The cast featured John Gallagher Jr. as Johnny, Matt Caplan as Tunny, Michael Esper as Will, Tony Vincent as St. Jimmy, Mary Faber as Heather, Rebecca Naomi Jones as Whatsername, and Christina Sajous as Extraordinary Girl. Also featured are Declan Bennet, Andrew Call, Gerard Canonico, Miguel Cervantes, Joshua Henry, Brian Charles Johnson, Chase Peacock, Theo Stockman, Ben Thompson, Alysha Umphress, Morgan Weed, and Libby Winters.

The creative team included Tom Kitt (music supervision, arrangements, orchestrations), Christine Jones (sets), Kevin Adams (lights), Andrea Lauer (costumes), Brian Ronan (sound), and Darrel Maloney (video, projections).
