The Disney musical Mary Poppins will begin an open-ended run at the Circus Theatre in Scheveningen, Holland, outside of Amsterdam. The production will open in April, 2010.
The show, based on stories by P.L. Travers and the Oscar-winning 1964 Walt Disney film of the same title, is directed by Richard Eyre, with co-direction and choreography by Matthew Bourne and additional choreography by Stephen Mear. Mary Poppins has a book by Julian Fellows, and uses the original film score by Robert and Richard Sherman, augmented by new songs written by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. The Holland production will be produced by Joop van den Ende Theatreproductions/Stage Entertainment, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's producing partner in the country.
Mary Poppins continues to play Broadway's New Amsterdam Theatre, and the musical recently launched a UK tour. A US Tour will begin in March 2009, and other future productions include an Australia mounting in 2010.
