 | | Angela Lansbury | Five-time Tony Award winner Angela Lansbury will be the honoree at the Drama League's A Musical Celebration of Broadway, a black-tie fundraising gala to be held in the Grand Ballroom at The Pierre New York on February 8. Tony Award winner Michael Mayer will co-direct the event with his Spring Awakening Associate Director, Beatrice Terry.
Lansbury made her Broadway debut in 1957 in Hotel Paradiso, appearing opposite Bert Lahr. She returned in 1960 playing Joan Plowright's mother in A Taste of Honey, and a year later, she starred in her first musical, Anyone Can Whistle. She won her Tonys for her performances in Sweeney Todd, Mame, Dear World, Gypsy, and most recently, Blithe Spirit. Later this season, she will appear in a revival of A Little Night Music, co-starring Catherine Zeta-Jones. Lansbury may be best known as Jessica Fletcher from television's Murder, She Wrote, for which she won four Golden Globe Awards.
