Angela Lansbury is one of the most enduringly popular performers alive today, with a career stretching back to World War II. Perhaps best known for playing Jessica Fletcher in the long-running television series Murder, She Wrote, she has a storied stage career, winning five Tony Awards for Best Actress for her work in Sweeney Todd, Mame, Dear World, Gypsy, and, most recently, Blithe Spirit. Her last appearance on Broadway was in 2009's A Little Night Music. In addition to her stage and television work, Lansbury is an acclaimed film actress, appearing in such films as The Manchruian Candidate and The Picture of Dorian Gray. In the 1990s, Ms. Lansbury lent her voice to the popular animated features Beauty and the Beast and Anastasia. In 1982, she was inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame, and in 1994 she was named a Commander of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II.
