Into the Woods: Laura Bell Bundy Confirmed for Legally Blonde

Laura Bell Bundy is officially set to play Elle Woods in the Broadway musical Legally Blonde. The show is scheduled to begin performancea at the Palace Theater on April 3 and to open officially on April 29, following a January 23-February 24 run at San Francisco's Orpheum Theater. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.

The musical is based on the popular 2001 movie of the same title, about a determined if seemingly ditzy college student who decides to become the first member of her sorority to attend Harvard Law School.

Legally Blonde will mark the Broadway directorial debut of Tony Award-winning choreographer Jerry Mitchell, who will also choreograph the show. The musical has a score by Nell Benjamin and Laurence O'Keefe, and a book by Heather Hach. The production will feature set design by David Rockwell, costume design by Gregg Barnes, lighting design by Kenneth Posner, sound design by ACME Sound Partners, and musical direction by Alex Lacamoire.

Bundy's Broadway credits include the roles of Glinda in Wicked and Amber Von Tussle in the original Broadway cast of Hairspray; among her Off-Broadway and regional credits are Ruthless! The Musical, Gypsy, and The Sound of Music. A former star of the CBS daytime series Guiding Light, Bundy will appear in the upcoming film version of the Broadway musical Dreamgirls.
