Opera legend Placido Domingo will resign as general director of the Washington National Opera in June, after a 15-year tenure, according to The New York Times. Earlier this month, he renewed his contract as general director of the Los Angeles Opera, where he is starring in Il Postino.

He has won numerous Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards, among other honors. Domingo has been named the Latin Grammys Person of the Year for his professional and philanthropic achievements. He will be honored in an all-star ceremony on November 10 in Las Vegas, the night before the Latin Grammys.

He is the founder of Operalia, a contest for opera singing, and through many benefit concerts he has collected millions of dollars for victims of disasters such as Mexico’s 1985 earthquake and Hurricane Katrina.
