On Wednesday, September 15, Stephen Sondheim was joined by Patti LuPone, Nathan Lane, playwright John Weidman, Tom Tuft, Chairman of Roundabout Theatre Company’s Board of Directors, Tood Haimes, Roundabout’s Artisitic Director, and New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn to light the marque of Roundabout’s newly dedicated Stephen Sondheim Theatre on West 43rd Street,.

The Roundabout currently has a long-term lease on the theater, previously known as the Henry Miller’s. The original theater was built in 1918, and underwent a massive reconstruction from The Durst Organization and Bank of America, which was completed in May 2009. It is the first new Broadway theater built in over a decade and sits behind the preserved and restored neo-Georgian façade of the original.

Sondheim turned 80 on March 22, and was honored by numerous galas, concerts, and shows, including the Roundabout’s Sondheim on Sondheim.
