Natascia Diaz, Luba Mason, Anthony Lee Medina, Elan Luz Rivera, et al. Set for Public Theater’s The Capeman Concerts

Preliminary casting has been announced for The Public Theater’s concert performances of The Capeman, featuring music by Paul Simon, with book and lyrics by Simon and Derek Walcott, to be offered at the Delacorte Theatre August 14-16.

As previously reported, Diane Paulus will direct the performances, which will feature choreography by Sergio Trujillo. The score will be played by Oscar Hernandez and a 12 piece orchestra.

The concert will feature veterans from the original Broadway production of the musical, including Natascia Diaz (Esmerelda Agron), Luba Mason (Mrs. KrzesinskI), and Elan Luz Rivera (Bernadette), along with ensemble members Frankie Negron and Myrna Lee Gomila. The company will also feature Anthony Lee Medina (Sal Agrón), Obie Bermudez (Umbrella Man), Nicole Lequerica (Aurea Agron), Abraham Rodriguez (Santero) and Jorge Maldonado (Reverend Gonzalez), as well as Bryan Anthony, Xavier Cano, Nina LaFarga, Omar Lopez-Cepero, Cornell McKnight, Luis Salgado, and Tanairi Vasquez . Additional casting will be announced at a later date.

The creative team will include Riccardo Hernandez (scenic consultation), Emilio Sosa (costume design), Peter Kaczorowski, (lighting design), and Acme Sound Partners (sound design).

In related news, the theater has announced that Puerto Rican vocalist Danny Rivera will offer special encore concerts following each performance of The Capeman.

Free tickets will be distributed the day of the show in person at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park beginning at 1 p.m. or through online Virtual Ticketing available at ShakespeareInThePark.org, where people can register on the day of the performance they wish to attend. Virtual Ticketing recipients are chosen at random to receive tickets, not in the order requests are received.
